With Cakewalk Sonar, a default setting resets all CCc upon stopping playback. This sets the mod wheel to zero, thus muting ARIA instruments. Here's how to fix this:

Go into Options->Project Options->MIDI out.

Uncheck Zero Controllers when play stops (1). Click OK to exit (2).
